About Us

Ward Hamilton has provided historic preservation consulting and contracting services for over one thousand buildings in Boston, New York and throughout the New England states, most on the National Register of Historic Places. He believes that a multi-disciplinary approach to the planning of all aspects of historic preservation projects is necessary to preserve the heritage embodied in the fabric of our built environment.

As an active participant in the historic preservation community, Ward is appreciative of the limited resources available for the preservation and maintenance of historic buildings. With a master's degree in historic preservation and experience as a preservation contractor, he exceeds the Secretary of the Interior's professional standards (36 CFR part 61) as an "architectural historian" qualified to perform identification, evaluation, registration, and treatment activities.

Ward always endeavors to provide value-filled, appropriate, sensitive, creative, and responsible solutions to his clients and is a regular contributor to Clem Labine's Traditional Building.  He has also been published several times in Roofing and Traditional Roofing magazines and featured in Historic New England magazine and Brookline Patch. Ward is the former chair of the Historical Commission in Melrose, Massachusetts, where he has also served on the Public Safety and Memorial Hall Building Committees, and is presently an elected member of the Melrose City Council.

In November of 2020, Ward was elected to represent Melrose on the Northeast Regional Vocational School Committee. In 2021, he was selected by his peers to serve as the treasurer of the school committee as they embarked on the construction of a new $320m high school building and state of the art athletic facilities. In the Spring of 2024, Ward was selected to represent the City Council on the Public Safety Facilities Building Committee as work commenced on a $130m initiative to replace the police and fire stations in Melrose.

Based in Melrose, Massachusetts, serving clients in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Chestnut Hill, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline and points north from Gloucester and Newburyport to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and southern Maine.
